This Matcha bowl features a special Kutani technique called Ginsai. Ginsai is a technique of applying transparent or five-colour glaze on top of silver foil and baking it.
The characteristic of this technique is that silver foil does not come off and does not rust.
Ginsai become popular when potters experimented with putting a simple and beautiful design onto ceramics, and they found that this appealed to both Japanese and Western tastes. The craftsmen will spray the paint over the top of the silver leaf, allowing for a consistent and delicate colour that could not be achieved by using a traditional brush.
The matcha tea bowl is presented inside an original Paulownia wood box inscribed with the maker's mark and seal.
A beautiful gift for someone who dearly appreciates the art of tea.
