Delicious matcha cousin
"This saeka is a true delight. So similar to matcha, but a bit more grassy with a gentle bitterness that makes a wonderful tea or milk-based drink. I will definitely buy more."

The SAEKA story
SAEKA is a deeply steamed, stone-milled green tea powder made from first harvest Saemidori leaves. A single cultivar, a single origin, a single season. Brighter, more floral, and naturally sweet, with the same effortless whisking you love from ceremonial matcha.
See how sencha powder differs from matcha, and learn how to whisk your first cup.
Both come from the same plant and are stone-milled the same way. Neither is “better” — they are two different expressions of Japanese green tea.
| Processing | SAEKA sencha powder | Matcha ceremonial |
|---|---|---|
| Growing | Grown in full sun — unshaded sencha leaves develop a bright, lively character | Shade-grown for weeks before harvest, concentrating chlorophyll and amino acids |
| Steaming | Deep steamed (fukamushi) for ~90 seconds, softening the leaf completely | Lightly steamed to preserve the leaf before drying into tencha |
| Flavour | Bright, floral and naturally sweet with a gentle brothy depth | Deeper umami — rich, grassy and rounded |
| In the cup | Dissolves effortlessly, no sifting needed; creamy with a soft, fine foam | Best sifted first; whisks into a dense, velvety foam |
| Harvest | First harvest (Ichibancha) Saemidori only, stone-milled | First harvest tencha, stone-milled |
| Reach for it when | You want a lighter, brighter cup — iced lattes, a fresh change of pace | You want the classic ceremonial ritual and full umami hit |

A note from our founder
Thank you to everyone on our early access list who helped us shape this launch. SAEKA is our first release beyond matcha, made with the same farms and the same care as our finest ceremonial teas. We are thrilled to share it with all of Australia.
