Easy Iced Matcha Latte Recipe (No Sugar)

This easy-to-follow iced matcha latte recipe shows step by step how to make a refreshing iced matcha latte at home, sweetened only with a little maple syrup.

Tip: brew the matcha with hot water so its flavours are properly extracted. Hot water brings out more of the umami notes of the tea than mixing straight into cold milk.

Recipe questions

Is this really sugar free?

There is no refined sugar — the drink is sweetened with 15ml of maple syrup. You can skip it entirely or swap in honey or a sugar-free syrup.

Why brew the matcha with hot water for an iced drink?

Hot water extracts the umami and depth from the matcha before it is chilled over ice. Whisking straight into cold liquid gives a flatter, grassier flavour.

What milk froths best for this?

Any milk works, but full cream dairy and barista oat milk froth most easily with a milk frother for that creamy sweetened layer.
